Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon - Wairarapa Hospital

Masterton

Reference: 4751330

We are looking for an Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our enthusiastic team. Our preference is to fill this role permanently with a vocationally registered surgeon to work up to 1.0 FTE, however we are also open to a discussion around a fixed term appointment (duration is negotiable).

We have a highly functioning orthopaedic unit. If you are a consultant looking for a fresh opportunity, in a friendly and dynamic small hospital, a wonderful Wairarapa lifestyle and proximity to the capital city Wellington, then this may well be the place for you!

Wairarapa Hospital is a secondary hospital with capacity of up to 90 beds, which services an urban and rural population of 43,000. There is a Level 4 Emergency Department with associated High Dependency Unit, 24/7 access to CT, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry and anaesthetics.

As a member of our Orthopaedic team you will be one of four Orthopaedic Surgeons in a unit which provides a comprehensive public and in private orthopaedic service for the population of the Wairarapa. In view of the opportunity for a private income this appointment is likely to be either permanent part time or fixed term part time. An interest in arthroplasty would be an advantage.

Wairarapa District Health Board has a close liaison with Selina Sutherland Hospital, an independent onsite private facility. Selina Sutherland is run by a charitable trust and has its own board. It leases facilities from and works in a symbiotic way with the DHB to provide options for healthcare in the Wairarapa.

There is an on call requirement to this role, afterhours through the week and over the weekend. This is managed from within the team.

OUR REGION

The Wairarapa region offers an enviable lifestyle. With quality schools, strong community spirit, great beaches and rivers, world class vineyards, mountain ranges and rivers, this is a place you can call home.

Wairarapa Hospital, based in Masterton, is about an hour and a half from Hutt Hospital, Wellington Hospital (Capital city) and Palmerston North Hospital. Daily rail services link Wairarapa with the Wellington region, including the International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections.

Wairarapa District Health Board is committed to clinical excellence in all disciplines. You will be encouraged to take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided.

Applicants must be eligible for Vocational Scope registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. If you are a New Zealand graduate, this will be to your advantage if you apply for this role. Assistance with accommodation will be offered.
