Consultant Emergency Medicine / Rural Hospital Specialist (Acute Services)
Acute Services – Wairarapa Hospital
We are looking for a full time or Part-time Emergency Physician(s) to join our enthusiastic team.
If you are a FACEM or an International ED Physician looking to balance a new opportunity in a small and dynamic ED with our wonderful Wairarapa lifestyle, then this may well be the place for you! We will also consider applications from Rural Hospital Specialists.
You will join our Emergency Medicine team of Emergency Physicians, Medical Officers, Nurses and Administration staff, supported by tertiary, primary care, paramedic and LifeFlight colleagues.
Wairarapa ED is a busy teaching emergency department seeing approximately 17,000 patients per year (20% paediatric), with an admission rate of about 30%. We work closely with primary care to develop care pathways and better manager acute demand. The next few years will bring exciting developments as we continue to work together to meet the needs of our population.
Wairarapa Hospital is a secondary hospital with capacity of up to 90 beds, which services an urban and rural population of 48,000. There is a Level 4 Emergency Department with associated High Dependency Unit, 24/7 access to CT, providing 24-hour acute and elective care in general and orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, anaesthetics and paediatrics.
The Wairarapa region offers an enviable lifestyle. With quality schools, strong community spirit, great beaches and rivers, world class vineyards, mountain ranges and rivers, this is a place you can call home.
Wairarapa Hospital, based in Masterton, is about an hour and a half from Hutt Hospital, Wellington Hospital (Capital city) and Palmerston North Hospital. Daily rail services link Wairarapa with the Wellington region, including the International Airport and Inter-Island ferry connections.
These position(s) are permanent part-time or full time, working up to 80 hours per fortnight which can include up to 8 clinical shifts plus non-clinical time. Duties involve working rostered and rotating shifts.
Wairarapa District Health Board is committed to clinical excellence in all disciplines. You will be encouraged to take part in clinical audits and peer reviews to ensure quality clinical care is provided. Clinical co-operation with neighbouring hospitals is a feature of our work, with an established regional Critical Care Network in the region, and a telemedicine trial in development.
Applicants must be eligible for either Vocational Scope or Medical Officer Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
